Ranch Update

2004 is off to a good start...

...On January 24, our General Meeting included a
wonderful interpretation of Alice Tisdale Hobart by Beverly
Lauderdale.
Alice Hobart, a noted author, wrote two books
while she and her husband Earle, lived at Rodgers Ranch
from 1937-1942.

One of the books, "The cup and the sword", was made into
a movie called "This earth is mine" starring several well known
actors including Rock Hudson. Beverly, as Alice, told of her life
in China and of the many obsticaled she had to overcome. Alice
had a fastinating life, all of which is revealed in her autobiography,
"Dusty's Child". And Beverly did a wonderful job portraying Alice.

...On March 26, we held our annual Fundraiser dinner.
This year we paide tribute to disco at "that 70's show,
Rodgers Ranch is Stay'n Alive!" A wonderful time was had
by all and we would like to thank our local businesses and
community members who contributed to our auction. We
were able to raise more than $7,000 -all of which will go
toward the restoration of the Rodgers Ranch property. We
would like to thank the Pleasant hill Rec and Park
District
for the use of the community center, Barry and his
crew at Outback steakhouse for the wonderful meal, and
Donny Fitzsimmons of Strawberry Fields for our dancing
music. Our "surprise" autioneers for the evening were
Michael Harris, Chuck Escover, Tom McHale and David
Durant
. We apreciate their bravery and their help. Of
course, our biggest thank-you is to our wonderful guests
who joined us and bid on items. With your support, our
restoration project will become a reality
