Over twenty volunteers, including ten from Generations Church, came to RRHC on Community Service Day last Saturday to pull nails and stack wood from the Martinez barn. It was a huge help and just goes to show what a big group of people can do in a short space of time! Thank you, volunteers! Photo by Faye Donaghu

Our goal for getting the barn in Martinez completely torn down and the wood moved to RRHC by the end of September is in sight! Tuesday, we hired workers from Fernando Lujan and Lee Commercial Services for some of the toughest work in the Martinez portion of the barn project.
Seven men joined Alison, Denise, and Joseph to take apart the last of the barn's "wings," disconnect the impressive and heavy beams, carry & sort them into piles, and continue with the removal of nails. Btw, some of these nails have been firmly embedded since the late 1890s, so crowbars, hammers, and nail removers are put to good use! Everyone wears an assortment of masks, hats, sunglasses, and hearing protection for the job. These guys worked hard yesterday and jokingly referred to themselves as "manimals," but one took a moment to read aloud from a decaying paperback, found among the various "artifacts" on site! Next up: The site's landowner will provide a forklift to load the remaining cargo onto a flatbed trailer. After receiving the last of the wood at RRHC, volunteers will remove every last nail (even "antique" square nails)! Finally, the wood will be spread out, treated for termite-prevention, and stored in our big blue container. If you'd like to help with any part of this last phase, contact Alison Clary at 925-595-2347. Check out a few pictures below to see yesterday's efforts! The last moments of the barn, before it finally comes down....The barn is down now, but the work is not over. We have the rest of this week and weekend to finish dismantling and retrieving the wood that's left. We will be working from Wed through Sat from 10 am - 2 pm. If you are available at all, please call Alison our volunteer coordinator for this project at 925 595-2347 for more details. We need all the bodies we can get to salvage as much of the wood as possible. Video by Joseph Palmer
Thank you in advance, The RRHC Board. Major headway made on barn, but there's still more to go! Help us make it happen. We need people to load and unload wood and pull nails from the wood so we can store it in our containers at RRHC before it gets wet from rain. Check out what we've done so far! The roof is off, all the sides are down, the doors are down, and wood is sitting in piles, waiting to be loaded on our 20 foot trailer. From there it goes to RRHC for unloading. Come to Rodgers Ranch this Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday with your tools (e.g. zawlsaw, hammer, crowbar, nail puller) and pull out some nails! Great for venting frustrations! We'll be at RRHC, going back and forth to the barn, from 10am to 2pm. Wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and work gloves. See you at the ranch!
Call or Text Alison at 925-595-2347 for details! This past Thursday we loaded our piles of wood from the Martinez barn onto a 20-foot flatbed trailer, Denise's truck, and Laurie's truck, drove them to RRHC, and unloaded the wood by the containers on site. We did two big round-trips and go back for more this week-end.
We'll be there this Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10am! We love our volunteers! This is the final phase before the owner of the Martinez land commences with groundbreaking for his own building in a couple of weeks. We are pushing for all volunteers who want to help with this all-important end-phase of the barn to finish dismantling and transporting this beautiful wood for our own new barn. We are so grateful for the hard-working volunteers from the past week and upcoming weekend. A big shout out to: Christian, Alex, Ted, Danny, Brody, Andy, Denise, Laurie, Alison, Joseph, Judie, and Bob! Join us! Call Alison at 925-932-2328 or text at 925-595-2347 A 45' trailer is being delivered to the old Martinez barn next week! We can now start loading our wonderful piles of wood for transport over to RRHC. Come join our work party on Thursday, September 10, anytime between 10am and 2pm. Please bring gloves, a sack lunch or snack, water, long pants, closed shoes, and your beautiful smile. We have lots of fun on this site together! Call or text Alison for any questions at 925-595-2347 or call 925-932-2328.
