In addition to the ongoing barn project (scan down and see our progress!), mark your calendars for two other events. Please join us for our Annual Meeting, November 14, 4 - 7pm. We host this informal event at the ranch, serve a light supper, and fill in guests and the public on current projects and future plans. Three board members will be re-elected as well. We also invite you to attend our annual Holiday Boutique, 10am - 4pm, December 5 and December 6. Browse and do your holiday shopping in our charming, old-fashioned 1860s farmhouse. We look forward to seeing you! Happy Holidays!

Last Saturday, Alison, Christian, Josh, Denise, and Joseph started loading wood into the blue container in earnest. We re-organized the shelving to make room for the extra-long, 25-feet boards, and our core crew made a nice dent in dwindling down a couple of piles. Some of the long, dense, and heavy wood requires four people at a time to carry the behemoth beams.
We are still looking for more weekday or weekend volunteers to load or do a bit of final nail pulling! If you can help, even for an hour, please contact Alison at 932-2328. Photos by Alison Clary You've heard of nail biting experiences? This past Saturday, 10/17, Alison, Denise, and Joseph tackled what was probably the last session of nail pulling! We also started loading the wood into the blue container - YAY!! Christian joined us and we discussed the best strategy for getting the different sizes of wood in the container for maximize use of space, as well as future ease of unloading. It started to sprinkle rain while we were there, and we appreciated the gleeful cheers from the "Meet Up" group at the urban farm up the hill. Light rain should not affect the wood, however, we are anxious to get it loaded as soon as possible. We can't do it alone. Join us this Saturday at 10am to simply carry and load our beautiful timber before it goes into hibernation for the winter. Come this Saturday, October 24! For details or questions, call Alison Clary at 932-2328.
Photos by Alison Clary Did you know that Hippocrates said he could cure anything with honey and cider vinegar? On October 15, our own Denise Koroslev led a workshop on herbal remedies for the upcoming cold season. Participants learned how different ingredients in your kitchen, vitamins, plants, berries, essential oils, and more could be used as treatments for various ailments and illnesses. Everyone went home excited with newfound knowledge. As always, Denise is a wealth of information! This workshop capped off the last of a series of ten workshops at RRHC. We look forward to partnering again with Sustainable Contra Costa next year. Stay tuned!
Photos by Alison Clary The wood is all here! All the wood from the demolished Martinez barn is at RRHC now. If you come by the ranch, you'll see several neat piles of usable wood. It's almost ready to store in our big, blue container; we just need some volunteers to finish removing nails. Drop by this Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10am, and stay for as long or as little as you like. Bring a hammer and nail remover, if you have them, and join our de-nailing parties!
Call Alison for details at 925-932-2328 or just show up! Photos by Alison Clary Riley Shanks, Eagle Scout from Troop 405, and 12 other Scouts built a split-rail fence around the front and side of the farmhouse to complete his Eagle Scout project. The new fence creates a delightful visual and physical boarder for the site. We invite you to drop by and check out this new addition to RRHC. Thanks Riley, it looks great!
