Herbal Salts - Grow, Cook, + Create Community Day

Join us for a day of learning and help raise funds for Rodgers Ranch!

Our three onsite partner organizations will be conducting hands-on workshops that showcase how our gardens can be used to create food and beauty.

You can sign up for one or more of the workshops - they are scheduled concurrently so that people interested in
multiple workshops will be able to attend all of them.
Instruction and materials are included in the workshops.

Seating is limited and registration is required. See ticket options below.  The registration deadline is October 1, 2025.
The costs of each workshop is $30 per person. Interested in all three? Sign up for our All Workshop ticket and you not only attend
all three workshops but you get a discount too!
Tickets are non-refundable.
Have a picnic at the ranch - feel free to bring snacks or your lunch and enjoy the outdoors before or after workshops!

  • 9:00-10:30am, Herbal Salts and Sugars - The Northern California Unit of The Herb Society of America will teach participants how to use fresh or dried herbs to make culinary seasoning salts and sugars that make great holiday gifts - or are useful (and yummy) in your own kitchen!  Participants will learn herb growing and harvesting basics, and after demonstrations on how to make the salts and sugars, they will make their own products to take home.

  • 10:45am-12:15pm, From Soil to Salsa - A Garden Adventure  - Explore, create, taste, and learn in this interactive 90-minute garden adventure with the Rodgers Ranch Urban Farm! Visit the Worm Farm & Soil Lab and learn how different soil types impact garden success (squirmy science in action!), do some hands-on planting of winter favorites like lettuce and fava beans, roll your own wildflower seed balls to support bees and beneficial insects, do a Garden Scavenger Hunt, and then finish the workshop off by making and tasting some Winter Salsa (we'll bring the chips!).

  • 1:00-2:30pm, Teacup Beauty - In this make-and-take workshop, participants will learn from the Contra Costa Succulent Club how to drill drainage holes in repurposed items such as teacups and plant succulent cuttings to make beautiful plant displays.
