Join us for a fascinating presentation on the Snakes, lizards and turtles of our county. Learn the facts about the only venomous snake in Northern California. Naturalist Michael Marchiano has studied the local Hepa fauna since childhood and will entertain you with stories and facts about these often-maligned creatures.

Naturalist Michael Marchiano- Mammals
Join us for a presentation by Naturalist Michael Marchiano on the subject of local mammals. Many of these creatures are not commonly seen because of their nocturnal habits, secretive lifestyle, fear of man, and diminishing numbers but Contra Costa County is home to a surprising number of species from tiny shrews to magnificent Mountain Lions, from aquatic otters to flying bats.

Naturalist Michael Marchiano- Spiders
Join us for a special presentation on our native tarantula, Aphonopelma iodius as well as other spider species common to our area. Autumn is “spider” season when spiders breed, make egg cases, and propagate future generations. Learn about their amazing life cycle, hunting methods, importance to the ecosystem, and hopefully dispel many of the myths and ignorance people have about spiders.

Join naturalist Michael Marchiano for a photo introduction of fungi and mushrooms of Contra Costa County. See the array of beautiful shapes and colors of some of our local varieties. Learn some very basic mycology (the science of fungi) as well as learning about the local death cap Amanita phalloides.

Our county has over 75 species of butterflies that can be found throughout the year. Join naturalist Michael Marchiano for a lecture and presentation showing photos of over 60 of them. Learn the host plant for their catepillars and many other fascinating facts about these beautiful insects that fly through our gardens, parks and open spaces.

Urban Farm Spring Expo and Plant Sale
Join us at our annual Spring Expo and Plant Sale (hosted by Rodgers Ranch Urban Farm) as we celebrate Spring! There will be various vendors selling herbs, vegetables, plants, and artisanal products. We’ll have food and music too. Shop early for the best selection - the fun starts at 10AM!
