2016 Plant Expo at Rodgers Ranch a Rousing Success!

4/10/2016

The annual plant sale ("expo") at Rodgers Ranch yesterday went beautifully. Despite the rain (which was heaviest during set up and take down, of course), it was cleansing and refreshing and there was an excellent turn out of people. The delicious food served by DVC Culinary students was mouth-watering (those tender ribs, that colorful quinoa, the chocolatey brownies, and more!). People purchased plants and learned about gardening, took mini lessons inside the farmhouse (on bees, soils, herbs, olive oil), strolled up the hill to visit the urban farm, rain barrels, worms, bees and compost system; bought various goods from vendors (jewelry, lotions, succulents, metalworks, herbs, seasonings, olive oils, pottery, etc.); learned about sustainability, gardening, mulch, etc.; bought vintage recycled farm wood; admired the new site signs, discovered history of the 1867 farmhouse and Rodgers family, and maybe even became members of Rodgers Ranch Heritage Center!

A good time was had by all and we thank our amazing lead organizers, Marian Woodard and John Matthesen (regretfully, I never caught up with them to get their photo!), vendors, volunteers (a shout out to our parking attendants who stood in the rain a lot of the time), visitors, RRHC board members, and fabulous neighbors! We are grateful for everyone's support and look forward to seeing you again at the ranch soon! Photos by Alison Clary
